Over the past few weeks, you may have heard some of us talking about something called Open Project. This is the leading open source project management server available and as planned, we are using Open Project as the open source software that powers our Project Management Site. Some of the frequently asked questions we heard are: What is it for? How do we use it? Do I need to download anything? So let's address those here!
What is it for?
The Project Management site is available as a resource to anyone in any of IMA's Working Groups. In fact, it is how anyone, even the general public, can learn about and watch the ongoing activities of any public Working Group and potentially join any Working Group!
How do we use it?
The Project Management site is 100% web-based so you only need a browser to access it. Because we are a unique hybrid organization, we needed to create a unique set of roles and permissions and change the workflow in the back end. So we've spent the last few weeks fine-tuning our configuration and have been working on self-directed training resources for the Working Groups.
Do I need to download anything?
The only thing we would like you to download is the basic user tutorial document in the form of a pdf. We hope folks are able to follow the steps in creating an account and learning some basic things like account settings and site navigation. At the end of the tutorial, you will find instructions to find the basic training document for working groups so you can step through that when you have available time.
Most of our testers were able to complete the basic training in about an hour but we realize not everyone has an hour of uninterrupted time! We also realize there is no way we can technology proof the training document to every possible user system available. So please do not hesitate to ask questions.
